What do the shops use then?

Thats what they use if you took it to them and where would this dust get into that couldn't be blown out.

And like you said don't vac the inside it does the pc no good.

Your not really doing any harm Helena by vacing the fan from the outside on the psu but you should have it cleaned inside i do mine every few months or so just with compressed air to keep it dust and hair free.
