Just thought I would update on the outcome now having chatted to Hubby & he has spoken to his Sister.....
We are not going to the Funeral as we thought it is going to be a 'Party Atmosphere' (the deceased wishes all to have fun) & many many people...so having spoken to his Sister as I said we are visiting her next Month for a few days.

Thanks for all your input x

Very personaly thing I think. I don't think you should feel forced in to going, nor feel bad if for whatever reason you should wish not to attend.

When my mum died, I didn't want to go to her funeral, but was forced to go by my dad.

I would expect my brother or sister to be there to support me at a close relative`s funeral. Wouldn`t you?
There`s no need for you to go though.

I think it depends on how close the relationship is with that person not just because they are related.
Hubby's sister is really looking forward to spending some time with us next month.

Thank you all again for all replies x

I don`t know if you`ve ever been to a funeral of someone you loved. It isn`t easy and you need all the support you can get. Family is special.
But I`m glad your OH and his sister are comfortable with the compromise.

Just thought I would update.

We visited Hubby's Sister & Family for the first time in 10 years a few weeks after Hubby's BiLaw's Funeral - & we spent a lovely few days with her.

I think the family would appreciate your presence there. I know this isnt always practical or easy.
