Basically, marketing then.

Well anyone who is vaguely interested in escaping malware hell, I'd say look beyond the marketing. From personal experience in using Linux distributions on a day to day basis, you'll not look back!

Actually, Leo, you sound like a pretty technical 'power user'. Probably the worst kind of person to have a go at Linux to be honest, as you'd have so much to unlearn... However, it'd be very interesting to see what you think. I'd suggest maybe install Virtualbox and then have a try of Linux Mint or PCLinuxOS. You'd have nothing to lose & will, no doubt, gain a lot of experience. Maybe a little experiment to try in the new year?

I got a spare hard drive laying about with nothing I can not transfur to another.

I'll download Mint and if I get time I'll install it and see whats what, and let you know what my thoughts are.
