Help identifying a parasite please

I found a ? on one of the dogs towels today. It's body was about the size of a smilie , kinda colourless and flat, with 8 legs (brown). It didn't seem to have big jaws for burrowing into the skin or anything like that. Any ideas?

It sounds like a tick to me. If it's colourless, it may have been a cattle tick. I hate the things, they make me feel sick.
