Dumb question about puppy vaccinations

Sorry for the pile of dumb questions - we're picking up our doberman puppy this weekend and it's been a VERY long time since we had a puppy! I feel like a complete novice dog owner all over again!
SO, the questions is, our puppy will be having her second vaccination tomorrow and therefore will be allowed "outside" a week from tomorrow. The question is, I know I obviously can't take her for walks until then but what can i do? Is she actually allowed outside at all? Is she allowed in the garden before then? We have 2 dogs already, both up to date with their vaccinations. Would appreciate some guidance and sorry for being stupid!

You can (and should) be carrying her around outside to acclimatise her to the sights and smells while she's in a very important stage of her development. If she's too heavy, a small pushchair or similar can help. Out in your garden is fine, many people even feel the need to socialise at her age and the risk of creating behavioural issues by not doing this is greater than any risk of picking up a disease so will socialise the dog prior to the 2nd vaccination, but that's personal preference. You could always arrange to meet vaccinated adult dogs for some socialisation.

For the following week take her out in your arms so that she can begin her socialising, you won't get very far with a cute pup in your arms with everyone stopping you to pet her, but those experiences are all important

Be careful with puppy parties - putting a group of young dogs who have not learnt social skills can lead to trouble. Ideally you want to mix your puppy with adult dogs with good social skills who will not only tolerate a puppy but know how to react to his lack of manners too. A local trainer near me does puppy walks that allow a maximum of two puppies, with around 4-6 vetted adult dogs, and they go out on a short walk in a country park so the puppies learn to both mingle with other dogs and meet/greet strange dogs (that the trainer goes and meets first to check how polite they are), which seems a lot better to me than the chaotic vet-arranged puppy party I went to when I had a pup
Try the APDT website for local trainers - http://www.apdt.co.uk

Contact some of the trainers on the APDT website and see if it's something they'd be happy to offer. It may be that they know of someone else with a puppy and some customers with adult dogs that would be willing to volunteer and they could offer some tailor-made walks with you. Or you may find that if you join up for puppy classes with one of them, the other clients may have adult dogs too and be willing to meet up with you outside of classes for socialisation purposes. Worth asking

I think I have recommended some training clubs in your area that I have personal knowledge of re their ethics etc.

As for what you can do with your puppy, I would look here for an excellent guide to socialising puppies.

Thanks smokeybear.

It's funny, I would have been super keen on getting the pup socialised whatever breed she was but my obsessiveness is going into overdrive because she's a dobe.
