what a difference a pill makes!

dan my youngest son takes a cocktail of drugs to control his adhd and oppositional difiant disorder. this morning he missed one of his pills.

result was:

wouldnt eat breakfast
wouldnt shower properly
refused to cooperate
missed school bus
argued with me constantly
got in trouble at school for being very late
messed my day up as had planned to take dogs out first and then go do some shopping and banking
made me cry and shout at him - got no patience to deal with this with all the

so i have had a horrible morning and now have to waste time going on a 12 mile car trip to take him to school during the busiest part of the day. it is bad cos there are only 3 roads out of portsmouth and they are all busy and 1 has roadworks on.

I remember the feeling well. My son was a nightmare if he ever forgot to take his medication. Plates smashed, tempers at breaking point and his brothers with bruises that a rugby player would have been proud of.

All I can say is that hopefully like me things will improve when he reaches 16.

My son told me at 16 that he was stopping his medication to see if he could cope with it on his own. I have to say it worked. Yes he still has his problems but he has designed his own coping strategies and they seem to work for him.
