Struvite Crystals

Poor Bunnie has struvite crystals and is on Purina UR as from tomorrow morning.

As she's used to wet food, I'm wondering if I should wean her onto the Purina (as I would normally for a food change) or as it's medicinal, just go for it?

Any advice welcome - thanks

Poor Bunnie, I do hope that the new diet sorts her out

I suppose that you have to weigh up the pros and cons......changing over immediately might cause a bit of a tummy upset for a while, but then again many people seem to have no problems at all when chopping and changing their dog's diets.

I think that if it was me I would just go for it, and hope that a) she likes the new food, and b) it doesn't cause any tummy troubles.

Good luck.

Thanks for responding, all x

I just dished it up and she scoffed the lot.

Not sure about the quantity. The recommended amount (which I rarely take any notice of anyway) is 168g daily for a dog of 10kg. Bun's 8.4kg. I was going to give 75g, but it was a huge amount, so I dropped it to 50g.

She seems quite happy and crunched away merrily.

Hopefully, in a couple of weeks, the crystals will have abated.

I'm guessing I may have to change food permanently?

I left Coo on the food for about a year but then she gradually got moved onto good quality kibble and now she eats anything and everything (except the orange crystals to help her pooh). She did have a huge crystal removed, you have caught it earlier.

I have no qualms about switching both Bunnie and Lennon to a good quality kibble. Can you recommend one please?

Give Burns a ring and have a chat to them---they were very helpful in the past---certainly worth a call and then a think.
