is it ok for a kong to be washed in the dishwasher

I have several kongs for Lola and Esme of varying types and sizes and I stuff them only when I leave the house for a coupleof hours, and they get played with in the mud and dust etc....

I have been washing them by hand as I am sure putting food in a dirty receptacle is unacceptable as you wouldn't eat a snack/dinner off a dirty plate? And it occured to me just now when I was washing a couple of kongs if they would be ok to pop in the dishwasher.

I cannot find any info on this on the website but thought I would ask if anyone else does it.

I put ours in the dishwasher, never had any problems with them

I think long term in the dish washer the rubber would perish, and I don't think the hole is big enough for the water to blast everything away, try it with one see what happens lol....

Yup, if it's really caked on it sometimes needs more than one wash but ours is in there all the time

I wash Woody's kongs by hand and once a week sterilise them in boiling water.

I have accidentally (well once was me, once was him) dropped them into the washing machine and they've survived ;o)

No dishwasher here but I find that the baby bottle brushes are good for cleaning the inside of the kong

I wash my boys with a tooth brush in boiling or very hot salted water...just soak it in the water for a few mins and scrub with the tooth brush, good as new!

The instructions that come with the kong say they may be put in the dishwasher

My dogs kongs go weeks before getting washed.
Then they mainly get handwashed and get occasionally put in the dishwasher for an extra clean.

I had another kong-type toy and found this didn't stand up to the dishwasher (or chewing) as the real kongs do.
