Puffin just woke up and has nicked one of my socks off the clothes horse. I'm taking that as a good sign! (Typical naughtiness). She's had a very small amount of water which has stayed down so far too.

Glad she's perked up now, she must be feeling better maybe that worming tablet made her sick, sometimes they do.

Re those pale gums. My heart specialist told me that when a dog wreches and vomits voilently,it causes the blood pressure to drop dramatically, sometimes to the extent that the dog passes out (which happened to me on a walk!) and that is why you see the pale gums - my dog's gums went completely white and she DID pass out on me! I don't want to scare you even more, but he said, unless that blood pressure comes back up again, well..... thankfully my dog's did because we put her in a sling to walk her back to the car, which of course, must have given it a jolt thank goodness! Good luck with her now.

Hi Helena54,

Oh that must have been so scary! So glad everything was OK. Her gums seems to be the right colour now and she's up and about, she keeps look at the spot where her food bowl goes and then at me (hint hint). Going to try her on a little plain rice later and see if she keeps that down. She had a little wee and passed a small stool (healthily solid) about an hour ago so no diarrhoea which is good, hopefully it was just a 24 hour thing or the worming tablet (like you said). Although I would have thought that would have taken longer to get through her system (she had it on Sunday night). Just got worried as 4.30am - 11am is a long time for a dog to keeping being sick, especially a pup. Will keep a close eye on her tonight and she how she is in the morning.

Thanks again, everyone on this forum is so helpful.

When any of my dogs have been like this, I have always left it to them to decide whether or not they want to eat, but I can't say that's the "right" thing to do, it's just my own instinct coz if they come up to me saying they're hungry, then I will give them something light and bland and a small amount, so you'll have to decide later if you think it's the right thing to do! Afterall, you know yourself, when you feel sick, the last thing you want to do is eat, but when you're feeling better, then you have something small and light and easy on the tum. Got any chicken breast? That would be good if you boiled it up with that rice or some fish? Don't whatever you do give her normal food until you are 100% sure she's ok. Good luck with her, it's awful seeing a sick puppy, I had so much of this last year when mine was tiny (she's huuuge now at 22 months though and very healthy thank goodness!)

Totally agree with being hungry or not when you're sick. Just gave her a few spoonfuls of rice which she wolfed down, will see if they stay down. Unfortunately I don't have any fish or chicken breast at the mo - unless tinned tuna (in water) is any good? (She has separation anxiety too and nearest shop is 5 miles away - and no way am I leaving her on her own at the mo, even in the back of the car). Will stock up in future, just in case!

I also meant to say to Helena54 - thanks for the info about why the gums lose colour, I knew they are a good indicator of whether or not she's OK but didn't know it was due to low blood pressure. I've asked the vet before when she's had a healthcheck (after I saw the vet doing it) and got the 'if you're worried about her check the colour of her gums' tip but didn't know why. Until now!

Lol, you see, you learn something new everyday on here! When the vet checks them, you'll see they press them to see how quickly the blood returns, that tells them a lot (it tells me nothing of course!), and it's always the first thing they do,check those gums, so next time she's off colour, always take a look and see if they're nice and pink and press an area gently and see if the colour returns nice and quickly (coz that's good if it does!).

What about eggs, some scrambled egg might be good?

I do learn something new every day on here! Well, the rice seems to be staying down and she's hungry, which is all good. No eggs either (I sound like Mother Hubbard!) apart from some out of date ones which I won't risk. Definitely need to stock up on poorly doggie food, she's usually such a good eater that I hadn't thought about it before. Will try a different brand of worming tablets in future too.

No, forget those eggs, you could end up with her worse than she is now!

Next time you go to Tesco's, get a small bag of their frozen fish and keep it in the freezer for times such as this, but hopefully, there won't be any more bad times! Hope she's all well again tomorrow and wanting her brekkie, bless her heart.

I didn't mean to panic you and I apologise if I did. It's just what I would have done.

So, she's a sock pincher is she? I'm now thinking blockage.......

I really hope it's nothing serious.....

Hi Vicky, no apology needed but thank you anyway, I know the gum thing was a bit scary. I felt better having spoken to the vet and they didn't seem to think it was urgent enough unless she continued vomiting (which she didn't thankfully!). Oh yes, a sock pincher and a shoe fetishist... she doesn't chew them though, just carries them off to either her lair in the garden (if the door is open) or to her bed. I sent her to her bed one day and then heard whining so went to investigate - it was too full of 1 trainer, 1 walking boot, 1 flipflop and a plastic watering can for her to get into it... she's a hoarder!

Helena54 - the rice seems to have stayed down and will definitely stock up on frozen fish in future...
