Any one out there's dogs on Metacam

Any one on Metacam.
My friends just rang shes changed vets with her Akita and she's been prescribed Metacam. A months supply cost her £46.00 excluding the consultation.
Does any one know if this is expensive, it cetainly sounds it but I've never used it, Morgan was happy on Rhymadal.

That sounds really expensive.

Kip was on metacam. I'm afraid I can't remember the size of the bottle - I've only ever seen 2 sizes and it was the larger one (which I think is 100ml), cost us £26 from our vets.

Kip wasn't on a particularly high dose, but I would say that this bottle lasted at least 2 months.

They give you a little syringe with the bottle - he had 0.15ml a day

Sounds a tad expensive Jacquie, the consultation fee can vary, usually £20, the Metacalm you can get yourself if you ask your vet for a prescription.

cost £69.00 in total , am I right in thinking they cant charge for a prescription now, but can charge a consultation fee to dispense it.

Flippin heck!!! Metacam is alot cheaper online!! As Nero said geta script next time and your friend can orrder it from one of the pharmacies. I'm guessing it must be the 100ml bottle and not the 32ml (Its about £23 for the 100ml bottle on bestpet)

Yes, as I understand it, though I've never needed to test it out as my vet is pretty reasonable about what they charge.

A month`s supply cost us £50. I`ve just taken my dog off metacam as he`d been on it for some time and found he improved! Keep in mind that metacam (while it is excellent for pain etc.) makes the dog quite sluggish after it builds up.

Are you sure this is the case for all dogs? I thought this was only a possible side effect in some dogs?

I got a new 100ml bottle of metacalm from our vet on Monday for Willow it cost £32.50. So yes I think £46 is excessive.
Edited to add certainly hasn't slowed her down any and shes been on it long term now.
