My dogs are on the ground at 7 weeks, the last one did not get his first jab until 9 weeks ( I prefer not to vaccinate when dog is stressed), but that is my choice.

I also follow the advice on this link and more:

For me, when Zulu was a puppy like you he was carried around for socialisation purposes. He was allowed to run around in our garden which was secure and we went to friends whos dogs were fully vacc'd. I personally wouldnt have them running around everywhere until all jabs were done and dusted - especially as parvo seems to crop up in certain areas and there were a few problems not so long ago I know with a duff batch of vaccine.

We did the puppy socialisation party at the VETS (the only safe place to do this imo!) inbetween our jabs, and although because of my breed the vet told me her socialisation was far more important than waiting for the duration of the jabs, I did wait, because I didn't want a dead dog, so I carried her in a shopping bag to most places and sat her on the bench in it lol!

Got to say, Teagan was also on the ground before her vaccinations had finished!
I got her late (12 weeks with no vaccinations) and felt she needed the socialisation/interaction/learning/training etc!
Plus it's hard carrying around a 15kg puppy for who knows how many weeks

Quite! More dogs die due to behaviour problems than catch diseases, and for both of my breeds I consider correct socialisation and habituation the priority.

Nothing in life is without risk and I often ask those who do not put their pups on the ground, "Do you wear your outdoor shoes in the house or are they left outside"?

I do have two dogs who are great ambassadors of their breeds who are totally bombproof with people and dogs, and who I can and do take anywhere.

But everyone must do what suits THEM.
