Teagan doing Hydrotherapy - bullmastiff

Well, today was Teagans second week at hyrdo.

She is making excellent progress!
She is getting nearly all way into the water on her own, and she only has 1 lead and collar on now, not 2!

I couldn't take my digi cam this week, but took some pics with my phone.
They aren't brilliant, but you get the idea!

Getting into the water:

Swimming down the first length:

Swimming up the second length:

Swimming back down the 2nd length side:

She has very bad Hip Dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and arthritis!
She also had an operation on her hock at the end of last year, and was 'out of action' for around 2 months, so she had quite a bit of muscle wastage, so this helps to build it all back up again!

Yep, done at a special doggy pool, unless you have access to a swimming pool someone doesn't mind you using!
The one I use doesn't require a vet referal - you can use it for fun/training/health reasons etc - whatever you want!
This one is at someones house......their dog was injured 20 years ago, and the 'nearest' pool was about an hour away, so they built one! (They also breed Labs, and all the pups get to swim!)

The one I use doesn't advertise, they use word of mouth.
Check here for pools near you, and also ask your vet, they may know of some!

The one I go to isn't on that website, but my vet did tell me about it!

Hydrotherepy is wonderful , for dogs who have joint problems..............The one I use insists on a vet referal ( to check they are fit enough ie heart will stand up to it) before you can take your dog................ she supports the dog in a harness, and they are only in the water for 3mins at a time.. then they come out rest for 5mins then go back in.................. I would recommend it to anyone for their dogs.

is it very expensive? i am sure dudley would benefit from swimming for fun if there's a pool near us? i looked on that site though, the nearest is in Blackwood - which isn't that close with no transport lol...

will also ask my vet.
