Champ show entries down.

Anyone else noticing this? Perhaps the economic climate is catching up with us? Entries in my breed has dropped and I am told many others too, how are you all fairing in your breeds?

Funnily enough Dawn I was wondering about that today. We don't show, or at least not at all often, but we do go to various shows and I was thinking today that it would cost a fair amount in petrol for the distances that people do travel. It may well be putting people off?

Its about £20 for a first entry with CC's RRmum, plus fuel etc.. costs a fortune. Im not one that will travel all round the country to shows, 2hrs max for me, but still costly.

Yes I've noticed too. Entries are definately down. I was at Border Union at the weekend, and there were only 121 Irish Setters entered. In previous years the entry would have been slightly over 150. Same this coming weekend for Blackpool, only 127 dogs entered, previously 160+.

It's actually £23 for the first entry with CCs, plus £4 for a catalogue, and quite a few charge for parking these days too.

Many people will be cutting back I expect, including me.

I've also noticed a drop in entries. I think this is partly two fold. The main reason being the credit crunch and the rising costs of fuel. I have also noticed the slight increase since pedigree have not been sponsoring as many shows, with the cost of catalogues ect.

I for one am cutting back on my Champ show entries as most are down South and with the price of entries plus diesel etc. at the moment just don't think its worth it.

Seems its all round then. We were seeing entries of 20 in the classes, but now its more like 14 and less in puppy classes.

Looking even further back, I remember standing in a junior bitch class at Manchester 1975, there were 40 odd bitches. If I remember rightly, we were stood two deep around the ring. How things have changed.
