I have no idea whether it's normal or not, but thank your lucky stars!

My bc Maggie only really started barking at about 18 months. She doesn't bark much now to be fair, only when the post man comes (before she attacks the letter box) or someone knocks on the door and she will give a little growl at people walking past the window but that's about it! If she hears another dog barking and cant see them she is sometimes partial to joining in though

Rocky wasn't a barker either - least not until he matured and only then at noises/knocks at door.

If you 'want' to train her to bark, check out this thread:

Training 'speak' hard going, any tips?

Hi Kimberley it is not unusual for Pixie not to bark at 5 months . She is still a baby.

Around 6-8 months adolescent dogs get a surge of hormones after which they begin to mature physically and grow in confidence. This is often the time when dogs who have not barked so far do so for the first time, some dogs lift their legs to scent mark having not done so before and bitches of course have a first season .

My lot rarely shut up, Ok I lie but they are vocal all of them, including the Pug pup who's been exercising her vocal chords since 12 weeks.

Thanks I think she has barked about 5 times since we got her so I know she can do it wouldn't want to encourage it as such. I am usual always about so ca n recognise what she wants without her barking for my attention just would like her to e vocal if someone broke in. Oh and thanks for moving to right section x

Chloe first barked at 12 weeks old .... she gave two GSD guard dogs hell. It really took me by surprise that a tiny bundle of fluff had such a deep bark!

Be thankful.. One of the most difficult issues with our rescued collie is her barking...It is her hobby!

Only now when she is finally more comfortable am I able to work with her on it as her bark pierces the eardrums.
