Nova is a female name, as are most names ending in "a".

How about NOLAN which is of Gaelic origin and means "Champion" or "Chariot fighter".

How about Aleph [pronounced AHlef] for "Alpha"? It means "leader"

My friend has a collie bitch called Nova - KC name 'They think it's all nova'. Definitely a female name!
