Boxers and other dogs

I had a terrible experience today. My two boxers, one female and one male, got out of the gate and attacted a 6 month lab. The lab was not hurt but it scared me and the children that own the lab. I have had simular things happen before. My female is usually the one that is the leader and the male followers. Lately my male has been very agressive to other dogs. I need to do something to stop this behavior. Any help?

Hi,

Are you sure your dogs 'attacked' in the aggressive sense? or were they just playing? if two Boxer sized dogs were attacking a young Lab pup, odds are they would have caused some damage.

First things first, if they escaped from your property, you MUST rectify this immediately. Secure your gate/fences to ensure this never happens again; there is really no excuse not to have your dogs safely contained.

What specifically makes you think your dogs are behaving aggressively? realistically no one can tell you why they are reacting the way they are via the internet. Sometimes extreme excitement, frustration, fear, etc., can be mistaken for 'aggression', so it is important to make the distinction. The best thing to do it enlist the help of a qualified behaviorist to come and assess them in person.

Start with not letting them be outside without a long lead on or tied to something in the garden, just to be 100% sure they can't get out.
I'd be fuming if I was walking my puppy down the pavement and two dogs came running out of a garden and jumped on him.
Specially if this is something that has happend before and it did again...

PS: I'm assuming that you know your dogs and they didn't just play rough with the Lab, but acted in a very unpleasant way.

Where were you when it happened, were the dogs unattended, do they live outside?

As has been said you must ensure it doesnt happen again. I know accidents happen but you say similar things have happened before? You need to upgrade your fencing to protect these dogs & anyone going past your property

Things to think about that may help,

Secure the property so the dogs can't get out ever again.

Are they Nutured ? it can sometimes help calm dogs a little.

Give the dogs something to do. too many people have dogs sitting around, bored all day.

Keep them well exercised

Get them working for there food.

Get them socialising with other dogs individualy at first

take them to a training club.

I don't mean this to sound blunt but there are no easy quick fix's, It will take time and effort on your part.
