Snakes Anyone?? Need an ID please

Hi Guys,

A long shot i know, but i was hoping we might have some snake buffs on here.

I need to know the name of a snake. It was about the size of a rat snake (would mature a bit bigger) was jet black and very shiny!! Not a speck of white on it. Very friendly and non-venomous. They make good pets apparently but are fairly rare.

I believe it was from Egypt. Im sure it was. But cant remember the name.

Anyone??

Jess

You can get all-black king snakes. Nice and friendly but a tendency to defacate at unwanted moments )

there are about 35 species of snake native to egypt, of which about half a dozen are of the asp/viper family and are therefore venomous.

None of them sound anything like you're describing, so is probably some sort of colubrid (i.e. not native). Shame you didnt get a pic, its worth more than a thousand words in instances like this.

(for future reference, its a head shot you need for identification)

Nope, not venemous, though apparently they can be "testy" without regular handling
