Out of control toy breeds

can i ask the toy breed owners on here to get a general opinion
in my area we have a number of toy breed owners that own aggressive dogs, walk them on extending leads and they seem to think it is exceptable for their dogs to attack/or go for other dogs and people, but as soon as a larger dog defends themselves it is then the larger dogs fault
recent case is a greyhound defending itself from a yorkshire terrier the yt is one one the most aggressive dogs in my area, it has even ran up my drive to try and bite me, now the yt owner wants to prosecute the elderly greyhound and his elderly owner, the greyhound is one of the most placid and friendly dogs in my area.

do you think it is acceptable for small and toy breeds to be so aggressive?
I dont as far as I am concerned a dog is a dog no matter what size it is and it should be under control and none aggressive to others using the public highway

It is no way acceptable for ANY dog to be aggressive regardless of their size.

I have a x breed she is small cavalier size and came to me when she was very young, I don't even think she was 8 weeks old.

We think she came from a BYB or puppy farmer and was afraid of her own shadow.

We went over an above to socialise her, but had to be very careful as she was so timid and scared.

I did not want a nervous aggressive dog and once she had gained her confidence she was socialised, trained and excercised the same way as was my Leonberger.

Toy breeds are dogs regardless or their size they are dogs and should not be treated any differently to larger breeds.

I cannot stand when owners tolerate aggressiveness in toy breeds and do not even apologise when their small dogs are hanging off my giant breed. I have had this happen on more than one occasion and if I were to let Ivan defend himself I would be the one in the wrong without a doubt!

We used to run into the same thing and it was one of my biggest worries - that Rocky would defend himself yet be the one to pay the price for the stupidity of other owners and their dogs.

Why not get in touch with the greyhound owner and say you will be willing to stand as a witness to share your account/dealings with the other dog?

You know there are idiots that own all sizes of dogs. To tar all 'small dog' owners with the same brush is just as bad as saying all bull breed owners only have their breed as fertility extensions etc.

An irresponsible owner is an irresponsible owner no matter how big or small a dog they own

I have Azz I heard about it yesterday and when I saw him pass today I told him if he needed I would be a witness not only to his dogs good behaviour but also to the agressive YTs behaviour - i have had several run ins with the YT both on my own property and on the street

I am not taring everyone with the same brush, my dogs walk/run every evening with my friends Westies who are excellent models of how small breeds should behave, unfortunately in my area she is the exception to the rule, all the other small breeds from Westies, Shi Tzus, Fox Terrier, YTs to JTs they are all aggressive

No of course it's not acceptable, although it's not something I've ever encountered tbh here it's usually jrt's on extending leads with elderly owners that think it's amusing that their little dog is so fiesty.
My little dogs have to follow the same rules as my big dogs.

most recent was a local peke..gobby red head! my guys ignored it completely yet a random passer by had to comment 'thats not fair three against one!! ' erm... look again! was 3 GOOD dogs ignoring a little s**t!!!
