I used to have my dogs insured but not any more. The premiums were going up and up despite the fact I never made a claim. We were hit with an unexpected bill last year and I paid it off at £50 per month by standing order. I'd rather do that than pay out £xx per month for something I may not need. My cats were insured too at one time but I stopped that. In the seven years my little moggy has been with us he has cost me £160 for an op to remove a growth in his mouth, and the insurance paid for £110 of that.

I ticked "I insure my dog and will do so at any cost"

I pay £108 per month. Have claimed in excess of £20,000 and paid £2,600 for 1 op out of my own pocket as i changed insurers knowing her elbows wouldn't be covered so was prepared for this and am still prepared for next ops up if need which can amount to maximum of £6,500 per elbow.

I took on my dog and will give her the best possible no matter what the cost.

There's no way I could afford a large vet bill so I have the best insurance I can afford for my two. Although I obviously am limited in what I could afford per month, if the cost got too much I would get cheaper cover elsewhere rather than have nothing. Even if it was only very basic cover.

I have three insured, I did two when I went abroad for three weeks, I wanted my daughter to be able to do whatever was needed in any kind of emergency with no worries. Celt became pretty well un insurable a couple of years ago, up till then he was covered. Champa was never insured and cost a fair bit but I was putting money away each month---not enough for him and Celt though. Fizz was insured when I decided to keep him.

I wouldn't insure with any company that wanted me to ring them before going for emergency treatment and I have the top cover ---which hopefully means I will never have to use it!

I think the rise in insurance is going along with the rise in everything else. Thank goodness the PDSA help some people.

I ticked I insure my dogs and will do at any cost. I would always have third party liability insurance at the very least - although you can get that for £25 a year through Dogs Trust membership.

Max is insured. When we got him in 2004 we were paying under £70 a year, this year is it about £350 - presumably due to his age. In the first year Max had a number of gastrointestinal problems and we certainly got our money's worth that year . We haven't put in a claim for years though

I keep him insured because I would hate to be in a position not to have him treated because I could not afford it. Although, on the other hand, Max is now an elderly dog who has always had dreadful fear of the vets. Should he injure himself and break his leg for example, obviously we would have him treated so it would be worth having him insured. Should he develop cancer for example, at his age, at the stress he would be under from repeated vets visits, I don't know that we would undertake treatment for him so having him insured would not make a difference.

I ticked "I no longer insure some of my dogs". We never insured Emmie because she was 12 when we got her, covered in lumps and has a heart murmur. However, we would have insured her if there'd been any point.

The puppy is insured and will be for life, unless we win the lottery or the premiums go much above £40 a month. If it went above that we would just set up a doggy savings account instead.

We have never insured any of our dogs. What we have paid out in vets fees is far less than what we would have paid out over the years for 5 dogs.

The worst accident we had was when Callan broke his leg. He was referred to a specialist who insisted on 50% payment on dropping him off and the remainder when collecting him the next day. Had we had insurance it would have been absolutely no use to us in Callans case.
