Slugs Multiplying

Hi This morning my OH got up to let the dogs out, everywhere you looked were slugs and there trails,so he decided to take them out somewhere else.

Last week in our vets were warnings about slugs,as they are thriving, its a real worry, but not sure whether this is happening in Wales or other parts of the UK did find a link, but in my life would never have thought something so innocous as a slug could be so dangerous.

In Australia they have cane toads big ugley b""gers and if they get in your pets water dish, your dog is dead, but its easy to deal with things like that but this I just dont know

It is a worry - apparently even if a dog eats some grass that a slug or snail has trailed over, that is still a risk. My colleague's dog was recently used to donate blood to an Akita with an unstoppable nose bleed, sadly it died and the vets think that may have had lungworm.

Hi spoke to vet,as one of my dogs licks the grass,he said that even the trail left behind is just as dangerous,so going to keep them off grass until weather turns frosty, its just too risky Gemini54

Is this in your garden? I use salt. It's inexpensive, freely available & very effective - outside my back door used to be like a snail/slug convention at night

They go everywhere even get into utility room & comservatory. If on window throw some salt on them & after minute or so they fall off - im on top of them now but only because im so vigiliant every night. We have an outside light which helps see the wee blighters

When I put salt on them to kill them it left such a revolting gooey sticky slimey mess I decided the slugs were preferable to that! Beer bottles, left on their sides with a little beer in did work quite well but never sure it isn't just attracting more of them or catching those already there!

Hi I know most people wish for summer, but at the moment cannot wait for the winter,my OH was running a CCT system to get all the bugs out for a mate,so he left it on,and Mr Fox was on the wall,he sniffed at a slug and went backwards very fast,so they must have a smell that warns animals "I am not nice to eat" Gemini54
