Locky's second Gotcha Day.
Just over two years ago, we started to think about getting a second dog as a playmate for Ella.
Ella in Dec 08.
We had by now joined Big GSD, and had become aware of the number of GSD's in rescue -we decided that we wanted to give a home to one of these dogs in need. We browsed the forums, and websites of other rescues looking for the right dog.
Around October 08 I saw small grainy pic of a GSD/Husky x on the SSPCA website. The dog was Kenneled in Peterden, about 50 miles from us - but as he was 9 years old at the time, I considered him too old.
On Christmas eve 2008, we heard via Big GSD that the Peterden center were running a story in the local paper to publicise Locky's plight in the hope of getting him a new home for the new year.
Luckily for us, we heard about him before the papers hit the stands, and arranged to meet him first thing on the 27th Dec when the center reopened after the Chrismas bank holiday.
I still thought he'd be too old and unsuitable for us, had no intention of taking on a 9 year old dog, but humoured my wife by agreeing to go and see him.

As soon as I met him, I absolutely fell for him. We took him out for a good walk that day, registered our interest in rehoming him, then went back the next day to make sure he got a good walk again.
On the 29th, I was about to set off to take him out again when I got the call that we could could bring him home
He soon settled in (though we had to move the sofa for the health of the blinds).
Oh yes, he settled in all right.
In April 09, Ella & Locky welcomed their new little brother into the family:
Who didn't seem to stay little for very long.
Locky spent his first Christmas with us in 09, the blinds no longer at risk by this time.
He adores his little brother who seems to keep him young.

Two years ago today, doesn't time fly - especially with a big loving lump by the name of Locky to share my life with!
