Latest News...Child Abuse Dutch Church

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16216174

Why does Catholicism seem to be the religion of choice for child abusers?

Catholics do not abuse children. Nor do followers of any other religion that I know of. As an institution, it does give scope to child molesters though.

It is very sad-people's lives ruined.

I think Jesus said something like "it is better for a mill-stone to be hanged round someone's neck and they be drowned than to hurt one of His little ones"

Pity the leaders in the Catholic church don't seem to think the same and cover it up rather than bring the perpetrators to human justice and prevent more children being abused.

Child abuse is not confined to the Catholic church though as there are teachers/scout leaders/nursery workers etc etc who have been in the press for abusing children....These people want to get into a position of trust with children to carry out their vile acts.

have you keep up with world news the last few years?
you havent heard all about the catholic priests that have been child abusers for decades?

actually, hare krishna has also been called out on child abuse recently as well.

the catholic church just keeps coming up and up time and again though, so its a fair question - why them?

People from all walks of life abuse children.............the Catholic church is huge so statistically they will have their share.

That does not excuse it or how it has been covered up which is dispicable.

Speaking as a lapsed/distant Catholic, I have often wondered if celibacy is the issue. You don't seem to get it in the C of E where they are not celibate, and live much more normal lives.

But the report also found that one in five children who attended an institution suffered abuse - regardless of whether it was Catholic.

This a quote from the report , so it sounds like children attending any institution are at risk , regardless of religion, not condoning the detail in the report but also need to think about the bigger picture.

Because for some reason, it seems to be a place these people can hide in.

Its not Catholics or their religion that is the cause of abuse...

But sadly such places attract undesirables, it may be of interest to you, but its not the only church to attract nasty people.
