Half-closes eyes when ordered off furniture - is this a calming signal?

Loki is NOT allowed on the sofa but it has become his goal in life to get on there as much as possible.

When we see him and order him off, he remains seated and sort of slowly half closes his eyes and does a kind of really slow blink. Is this some sort of calming signal? Is he saying, "chill, people I'm fine where I am?"

I think it means he is ignoring you....
if he licks his lips a little at the same time he is unsure of himself
get him off in a firm voice than lots of praise (cheeky little toad half closing his eyes..whever next )

Ignoring me, that'd be right. No, no licking of lips, just an almost falling asleep look.

Yes Vicki - you've got him pegged.

I relate to you LS - Fern does this thing that if we give him a command he does something else like chew his leg and look away, as if he's saying yeah I hear ya but I'm busy right now cheeky little rascal.

Loki is gorgeous, I to would love to see some footage of the wee rascal.

According to Turid Rugaas blinking is a calming signal, as are:
turning head away
averting eyes
softening eyes
turning away
licking nose
yawning
sniffing
licking faces
smacking lips
lifting paw
scratching

etc. etc.

lol @ wufflehoond

..blinking to calm is not so obvious in many dogs, cats seem to do it far more than dogs, also chickens and owls in particular and all birds do it a lot

Archie doesn't do the half closed eyes thing, but sometimes if I give him a command in a *slightly* firm tone he will shake him head at me

Loki sounds like a right little **** I reckon he is just sooo chilled lying on the sofa
