Anti virus won`t run??????? Help!!!

Think I might have a virus This morning when I turned the pc on I got this message box with a red cross *Could not initialize AVG Anti Virus kernel interface. Application cannot run*

It runs every morning when I turn the pc on & does an update then as well.

Anyone know what I should do please????

I`ve found a virus checker to do the pc

but its saying * java support is unabled on your system or no java runtime environment installed. If you want to use the java based housecall kernel please enable or install a java runtime environment version 1.4 or higher.

I haven`t a clue what to do, don`t know about java or how to find out
