Feeling Guilty!

I'm feeling really guilty! My husband and I went away for the weekend and my groomer offered to have Ozzie for the weekend.

On our return my groomer informed me that he was a pleasure to have and that he had a great time playing with a Westie (another of her clients dogs). She said that I should get another dog as she felt Ozzie needed a companion. She also said that Ozzie hadn't once whilst there pulled his hair out.

Bearing in mind that Ozzie has been doing this since well before we got him. The vet has done tests and it isn't an allergy, it seems to have become a habit. Though one that he dosen't do as much as he used to when we first got him.

Anyway, my husband says NO to another dog one of the reasons being that we have sold our house and will be moving in January. But I have been left feeling an awfull mum, and so guilty!

It's easy for people to tell us what to do they are not living our lives.
Maybe she just didn't notice him pulling his hair out??
Well done, you've got a happy well socialised dog, take him to the park and let him play with the dogs there, he so doesn't NEED on in your house. Just because he got on well with a dog in her house (not HIS turf) does not mean he'd react the same in your home.
Ignore her, don't feel guilty and enjoy your dog and well done on socialising him so well.

I'm with Ailsa on this

dont feel guilty - this lady had your dog for a weekend, you have him the rest of the year.

Please dont feel pushed into having another dog - just think how guilty you would feel if you got another dog and it all went pear shaped.

Presuming the dog went to her house for the weekend and not the other way around, I don't think it's unusual at all for the dog to behave differently. However, I'm pretty sure that if it had stayed there long enough for the new surroundings to become familiar, then the dog would have calmed down and acted as it usually does.

Aw, thanks Alisa, this is my 1st dog (not uncluding the family dogs when I was young) your comment regarding socialising has made me feel that at least I've done something right.

GSD Lover, yes Ozzie went to groomers home, maybe that was it - it was all new and exciting to him.

Justlou - yes that's what OH says, after we've moved and settled.

I still feel awfull though, if I look at Ozzie and he looks bored, it sets me off.

I agree with all the previous comments a dog does not NEED another dog as a companion. They have their human pack. Only get another dog if YOU want a second dog. My JR loves her doggie pals wheh we go to the park but she is quite happy to come home when shes had a play- shes queen of HER castle at home
