Flea Spot On......

Just had a customer asking about flea spot on treatments.......

Her vet told her the spot on treatment not only kills the fleas on the animal, but also any fleas in the area the animal goes in!!

Now, i've never heard of that, and can't see how it would work!

So, anyone else heard of this, or is that one crazy vet?!

Fleas can't live without going on the animal can they? So if there are fleas in the home environment they have t hop back onto feed...at which point they would be killed??? Maybe that is what he means???

Does Frontline Combo not interfere with the life cycle of the flea so any eggs laid off the dog don't hatch or something

Yeah, fleas can live for ages in the carpet etc, without being on an animal!

Perhaps, but thats not how he said it!
He told her that whatever area the dog went into, the fleas in that area would die!!

They don't 'have' though.

A flea egg can hatch on the floor, and in it's dormant stage a flea cycle can last up to around a year without being on an animal!

It can take 2 weeks to 6 months for the larvae will moult 3 times before going into the next cycle. But the larvae can remian in the cocoon for up to a year and nearly all chemicals won't work on a flea in that stage.

An adult flea can live without food for nearly 2 months. So it can be born on the floor and live there for 2 months till it dies.
