Stanley, male Bassett Hound, DOB 2004 Godstone, Surrey
Stanley, Bassett Hound, DOB 2004 Godstone, Surrey
Homing Requirements: Stanley needs a family who understand his breed as famed for grumpiness, so needs a respectful, negotiated approach not confrontational and he needs time to do things in his own way. Not for live in children. Stanley needs to be an Only pet unless the home is experienced in managing more than one dog and as above understand his breed characteristics. Stanley needs an approach to protect his fore leg joints i.e. avoid jumping down off a sofa and minimal stair use. Unassessed for cats or small furries. As a 9 year old dog, Stanleys future owners will have a realism of potential vet costs and the means to provide for Stanley's future needs.

His Story: Stanley was taken to the vet to be put to sleep at the age of 9 having apparently bitten. His vet refused to do so and contacted us to see if we could give him a rescue place in his latter years which we were delighted to do. Stanley is neutered, chipped and now fully vax'd. Stanley is currently kennelled near Gatwick, West Sussex.
Advert: Stan the man is strong-minded and will need an assured and negotiation approach, avoiding conflict. We have found Stanley very amenable and he shows you what he likes and doesn't. Stanley can run and enjoy 'play time'. Stanley is elderly and yet happily engages in his walks and running after a ball. He seems tolerant of other dogs company.
Stanley is a pedigree Bassett hound and is a large dog with short legs. Stanley needs to lose more weight to ensure he isn't placing too much weight through his front legs which seem insubstantial and possibly arthritic. Stanley has an umbilical hernia which isn't bothering him or a concern. Stanley's teeth are in good state and he has had his anal glands expressed and claws clipped on a muzzle at the vets. Stanley has been tolerant of ear cleaning by a kennel staff member who have befriended him. Vision and hearing are both fine. Stanley rocks!
Please note that this dog is currently in boarding kennels and is also available for foster until a 'forever' home is found.
