She's back in heat... 7 weeks after last one!

The vet is right, Codee doesn't have pyo, its not a UTI, its not vaginitis... she's back in heat! Her vulva is more swollen, she is bleeding and Deacon is like a cat on a hot tin roof! So again the house descends into chaos!!
Thing is Codee came in dead on 24 weeks on 11th January, was in for 4 weeks and ended February, now she is back in... she is 8 months old. Now according to the Book of the Bitch there is a condition called 'Nymphomania' and she does have some of the symptoms, just what I need!
I have had two bitches before, but Tess was spayed at 6mths and Remy spayed before I had her. So I have no experience of an entire bitch. My families bitches have come in once/twice a year so no experience of this either.
Can the vets give her something to stop anymore seasons so I can have her spayed in a few months? I know she is potentially a pyo risk if she keeps coming in like this and its not fair to her young body or my dopey boys for that matter.
Thanks in advance!!

oh hun, I had a nimph,

Mea was a 4 monthly season I know your pain.

Dogs allways showed some intrest in her, as she was either, just coming into season, - in season - or just coming out. Between that and the next we had the phantom at 9 weeks post season.

if she is only 8 months its possible that her seasons have not settled into a rhythem (is that how you spell it lol) one of my girls had seasons all over the place til she was about 18 months then they started coming in every 6 months near enough to the day, I did read though(maybe in the book of the bitch) that a bitch haing seasons less than every 4 months may have fertility problems?

Mo

im sure its linked to polycystic ovaries? but dont quote me

ETA: I wouldnt be overly worried at this stage, as mo has said, some bitches take a while to settle into there seasons,
if at the end of this one, she came back in after a few weeks I would start to be more concerned.

Sorry to hear this Claire, I know what a nightmare it was for you last time with those two boys just desperate for a liaison Good for you and all your hard work keeping them apart.

I wonder if that drug that they give bitches to prevent seasons, (a lot of show people use it, but not me, so they could campaign their bitches year round), would be of any help. Then you could have her speyed, although I'm not sure if it works once they are in season

Hopefully, Layla will be on soon and be able to help you with some suggestions. I'm just pleased that Codee didn't have anything actually wrong with her.

(((hugs))) from Leon and I, we will have to put that visit on hold for the time being as you don't want another randy setter on the scene eh?

I used that drug with mea, if memory is working today, you really need to give it around 14 days -ish prior to the seasons start,
I have given her it late though, but the season still sort of came on but not as full on and only lasted a few days,

Oh my! That must be hard work

Hopefully, she will settle down and get into a more regular pattern (with a longer gap between them!!).

I've yet to experience this 'joy'

It might be worth talking to a reproductive canine vet. Just like human - dogs can have hormone levels tested. There are several good ones throughout the country. They will talk to clients on the phone.

Thanks for your replies.. I am fortunate that its only Deacon that is interested in her, Jamie looks at her and walks off... I am hoping that it may be because she is still so young and yet to settle into her routine, I also want to spay her, but want her settled first. If it is a sign of whats to come I will try to get her on hormone therapy and get her spayed as soon as poss... The thing she hates is being kept on lead, she is very much an offlead girl!! She also hates being away from her brothers!!

Well have just spoken to my own vet (she was on holiday last week when I took Codee up.) I had to go up to have D's jabs done and I asked her about Codee, told her about the situation. I told her this season is really bloody unlike before... at first I thought the first season couldn't have been a proper one, but as it lasted 3-4 weeks and there was a swollen vulva and bleeding she said it was and this is one too... She is concerned as she is only 8 months old, she believes that she has polycystic ovaries especially seeing as she came in so early and that she should be spayed asap... so she is going up to the vets as soon as she has finished to have her pre op check and then will go in 8 weeks after end of season instead of 12 weeks, it is a risk, but if she carries on like this, I feel I have no choice its not fair to Codee, she is a dog who adores being out and about and at the moment getting her out without other dogs being around is difficult enough in itself and being off lead is a complete no-no. Its affecting her socialisation too as she can only go out when no other dog is about and she is really bleeding this time round too...
So anyway, hopefully she can be sorted out, so that she can have lots of fun in the fields and woods during the summer with her brothers!
