Help! Dog in pain!

Hi everyone,
I am posting this for my dad. Let me first say that the dog will be going to the vet pronto if he is still in pain tomorrow morning. I just thought I would post on here and maybe get an idea or some suggestions of what we can expect.

My dad's dog is a heeler mix. He has a couple years ago been hit by a car. His hip was broken, but he healed nicely. He has always limped on it or just hopped on 3 legs. It's never seemed to bother him, he can be seen chasing the cows in the fields often. Today he refused to go outside, he just wanted to stay indoors which was odd for him. My parents have both explained what he is doing. He acts as if he is trying to deficate, he will arch his back and push, but nothing happens. Other times, he can just be walking or sitting, it does not matter, and his poor bum will leak out drops of feces. It's just pure liquid, but there is no blood that they can see. However, about an hour ago, the dog squeezed out a small poo. Dad said is was hard as a rock and was very small, about the size of a small stone. The dog was barking while this was happening, he also whimpers every couple of minutes. Then there are times when nothing seems to be wrong with him at all.

I know this is the case for a vet, and the dog will be seen first thing tomorrow. I just hoped for any suggestions to pass on to my parents.

Could it be a tumor? What are the symptoms of renal failure? Could he just be constipated?

Thanks everyone, your time is appreciated.

Only a veterinary examination will rule anything in or out, but by the sounds of it, it could be constipation and it may sound very ho hum but if they can't get the poop out they just keep straining and can be quite painful and if left too long an operation may be required. He may have eaten something to cause the problem (not food, say a sock or something).
The arching to the back can be a number of things, I would be calling a vet to get advice, the longer it is left the worse it gets, more often than not if they are that blocked up it will not just clear, the fluid you talk of could be due to faecal impaction, which means the problem has been there for a while.
Giving him oily fish like tin sardines may help a little in some cases, other than that I would not be giving him dry food or any big meals.
I wouldn't be leaving it until the morning, even if your parents call for advice.
Let us know how they get on

Poor lad does sound rather uncomfortable.

I'm afraid I couldn't possibly guess what was wrong, and it would be reckless of me to try.

Please have your Dad get the dog checked at a vet asap.

Good luck x

Depending on the age of the dog, he could have prostrate problems. I wouldn't wait for tomorrow I would go to the vet today

Bless him...he does sound very uncomfortable Well my dog died of renal failure and those weren't the symptoms.
Increased thirst, increased urine output, weight loss, bad breath, diarrhoea and loss in interest of food are some of the symptoms but this is late on.
He does sound constipated but as the others have said, he really needs to see a vet. I hope everything is ok with him soon xx

It sounds like constipation to me too.

I can't offer any advice but I do send hugs, I hope your Dads' dog will be okay.

Please get your Dad to take him to the vet as soon as possible.

This sort of thing should not be left for too long.
