TV Licences

Who agrees that the TV licence is fair and who thinks its absurd to have to pay for a service that you might not even want ?

I dont agree with having to pay the licence fee ,I would rather not be able to watch the BBC and not have to pay it ,or I would have no problem with the BBC showing adverts

What other company gets payed even if no one wants their product ? its just so unfair to other companys and people forced to pay this outdated fee

No definitley not. I have cable and I pay for that as well as TV liscence so really I pay double for BBC which is crap. The only thing I watch on BBC is Eastenders occsasionaly which I could live without.....I think it is far too expensive.

A quick study about the oh-so horrible licence-fee...

BBC LICENCE FEE
£121 a year = £2.33 a week

Compare it to:
Daily/Sunday Mail for a week £3.90
A loaf every other day of the week (@ 97p) £3.39
A pint of milk a day (@ 30p) £2.10
a dozen eggs £2.78
2 cans of Bass Ale £2.20
half a packet of 20 cigarettes £2.25

VALUE FOR MONEY? You get -

• National television channels BBC1 and BBC2;
• digital television channels BBC3, BBC4, Cbeebies, CBBC, BBCParliament and BBCNews24;
• national RADIO stations 1, 2,3,4 and 5Live;
• digital radio stations 6,7, 5 SportExtra, and the Asian Network;
• 12 English regional TV stations and 3 national services;
• 40 BBC local radio stations with local access and community buses;
• one of the best online websites in the world – bbc.co.uk
• 42 ‘Where I Live’ local websites
• BBC News Interactive

I used to be dead against being forced to pay it but I was sent the above a while ago and it certianly puts it in perspective! It's cheaper than that horrible hate-inciting paper that calls itself the daily mail and a BILLION times better.

And we should be proud of the BBC website - it is probably the best news site in the world (have you seen the american counterparts? total shud!). Look at everything else on it's website too - you can listen to any of it's radio stations over the web! Or even shows you missed. Even catch up on tv progs you missed! And thats just the website read that list of what you get again - it certianly seems like excellent value for money (and it seems like an old list because there are even more digital channels now not on the list):

You get -

• National television channels BBC1 and BBC2;

• digital television channels BBC3, BBC4, Cbeebies, CBBC, BBCParliament and BBCNews24;

• national RADIO stations 1, 2,3,4 and 5Live;

• digital radio stations 6,7, 5 SportExtra, and the Asian Network;

• 12 English regional TV stations and 3 national services;

• 40 BBC local radio stations with local access and community buses;

• one of the best online websites in the world – bbc.co.uk

but what if you dont want all these things ,people should pay if they want these things and not have to pay if they dont
other companys dont force you to pay for their wonderful products if you dont want them

car tax is unfair too
a little old lady who only uses her car once a month to get her shopping still has to pay the same as a buisness man who travels 100s of miles a day !
