Dave ~ Very Friendly and Affectionate - 3yo White/Black Greyhound
DAVE
Dave is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who was retired from racing due to a shoulder injury. This is healed up now and will cause him no further problems now that he is no longer in training. Dave has a lovely white coat with black Dalmatian spots and black patches on his face. His coat is lacking a bit in condition right now but that’s nothing that a bit of good food won’t fix.
Dave is a lovable big guy who adores affection and soaks up any bit of attention given to him. He is well socialised with people and greatly enjoys your company. He is a very relaxed, easy going dog in general and should settle very well in to family life.
Dave gets on very well with our other greyhounds and is happy in their company. He is currently being kennelled with another greyhound called Kyle (in the photo below) and they get on very well together and are similar in personality and needs. We think they would make a beautiful pair if someone is looking for two houndies, though they can be homed separately too.
Dave has not been tested with small dogs but this can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds take a bit of socialisation work to realise smaller breeds are in fact dogs as they would never have seen them before. He is not cat friendly.
Like most greyhounds, Dave will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 20min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.
Dave has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first couple of weeks and allow him time learn the house rules. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. We don’t think it will take him too long to find the sofa!
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.
This gorgeous boy is currently being kennelled in Ireland, and can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
If you are interested in fostering or adopting Dave, please email me for our adoption application and information pack. Thanks!
