Dogs eating snails

Does anyone know of any dangers please of dogs eating snails??? I caught Georgie eating one the other day and it could point to his problems. I'm sure I've read somewhere about the dangers of snails, but I can't remember what! Thanks if anyone knows.

Snails can carry a parasitic worm which can affect dogs so either stop them from doing it or worm regularly with a varitey of wormers.

Thanks Becky, but that sounds like it wouldn't be an "instant" effect on the dog then?? I'm barking up the wrong tree I think, it was just a thought. I'm going to look up on the snails thing though just in case. Thanks again Becky and Mo

I was led to believe that it was heart worm that dogs can get from eating snails!

We dont get heart worm over here but I do know Lexie was ill from eating them earlier in the year when we had the bad weather. Its how to stop her that the problem she runs under the car in the drive and we cant get her out. Molly her sisters had a similar problem.

It's lung worm that dogs get from eating slugs and snails. Both panacur and Milbemax kill lung worm.

As I mention on the other thread it could be soething the snail had eaten before it was eaten causing the trouble. Do you know if any of your neighbours put out poison for the slugs & snails?

Thanks all. Well I really don't know whether anyone has put out poison for them, suppose I'd better ask them! Mind you, I think if it had been poisoned, I think Georgie would have been iller than he was and his blood test would have shown it perhaps? They can't be poisonous in themselves though coz the French eat them don't they!!! I still think it's worth a mention to the vet just in case
