Please send good luck wishes for Molly (updated @post 21)

She is going in for surgery tomorrow to have her dew claws removed.

Please send her hugs and kisses and healing thoughts for a safe operation and speedy recovery

Question from the inexperienced one! Is removing dew claws a standard operation for all dogs these days?

Lots of luck and love to Molly!

Hope all goes well for your dear little Molly tomorrow. Have a good chat with your vet before she goes in, you need to know about the aftercare! I changed my mind the morning of the op when I was told how much aftercare was actually involved with this, so make sure you know it all too! Good luck with her, I'm sure she'll be fine, they're nothing but a nuisance these dew claws I found out to my cost with my previous dog! In the end I had them cut right back and quarterised, no mess, no aftercare.

No not standard - Molly has had several problems with hers. She has ripped the nail 3 times actually breaking it on one occasion, which has resulted in it being very sore for her. She caught the nail again last week and got an infection. As it's not healing too well, vet has recommended they be removed.

Thank you

From the conversations i've already had with the vet, I think that they are cutting them right back. Have been told that she will have to be bandaged (obviously!) and stitches will be in for 10 days. He told me that it's not a major major op and recovery is usually good
