Why are ears cropped?

why do they do it?
why cant they just leave the dog to look like it was supposed to?

sorry if there are people on the board who's dogs do have cropped ears, perhaps you could give me an insight into why its done ?

It's done for cosmetic purposes only makes the dog look more nasty and agressive. I don't like to see it but you see it more in the states than anywhere else i think.

Think it was done on fighting dogs in the first place to remove the soft tissue down to the cartilage to help avoid injury but these days although a case can be made out for docking and dew claws I can think of no excuse for clipping ears or if it comes to it, dog fighting.

Most boxers in the US are cropped. They find it strange to see one uncropped.

First they made it illigal to cut both ears and tails and now its illigal to train in the clubs or start any classes (shows, hunt, agility, etc) with them in DK.

I believe thats a good thing! Dont se no reasons to do that to any dog..

i agree, JH, dog fighting is evil and the only things that should be hurt is the owners

Cropping ears is un necessary and completely changes the dogs natural look ! so why do it?

as are staffs, presa's, dobes etc WHY !!!!! this is not natural so WHY DO IT ???

sorry but this is one of my 'pet' hates and i cannot see the need for it and therefore consider it cruel

If the owners of dogs with cropped ears want to fill me in on the reasons then i am willing to listen and take on board what they say, i may not agree but i will listen.
