Oh it has a nick function! I thought it was mainly a sound collar, no on a puppy not even 6 mos old, nicking them might be counterproductive. My puppy Josie comes & I have had nothing but a eg collar.

Why can't she teach recall without having to use a tool? It's such a young pup

No and No. You can however use e collars on puppies older than a few weeks.

Oh yeah I have been accused of squeaky voice as well for the pup, as she is very soft & responsive & willing to follow any direction given. My older dog responds better to a gruffer voice however, but still gets tons of praise, even now, 8 yrs later.

I always train my pups that coming back to me is the best thing EVER & they even into adulthood will often return to me periodically because they learn quick,y that doing so gets praise & lovings

Why should she?

She's training for the future really, when the dog enters teenage phase and is no longer as motivated by human interaction. Then the e collar come into its own.

Usually with dogs started young by the time they are a year or so old you have a pretty perfect dog with great reliablty, were as everyone else is sticking the dog on line (sometimes forever) or spending the whole walking trying to encourage the dog back, with limited success lol.

Certainly if I ever had a pup I would start young.

I taught recall with a gruff voice coz I know that in an emergency I'm gonna yell "Rupert GIT!" rather than think to use a nice, happy voice. I'm sure it sounds awful but it's just another command he gets rewarded for following.

I find whistle recall best in emergencies. It cuts through other noise better than shouting.

Same problem though, I wouldn't think to whistle, I'd just shout.
