Split dew claw

Chance has been limping on and off for the past few days, i checked his pads and was washing hes feet in salt water just incase he had something stuck in them that i couldnt see. Today i was fussing him and i noticed he has split his dew clew in the middle. It isnt bleeding but you can see blood. It looks like he has taken a strip off the outside of his claw. Just wanted to know if i need to do anything for him and what might of caused it?

Ive put a pic on here so you get the gist of what im trying to say, i know i dont explain things very well. I isnt too clear but hopefully you`ll know what im trying to say

Makes me cringe just looking at it. No wonder the poor ****** was limping i didnt even think to check hes claws i just assumed he had either twisted hes leg or had something in his pad
He is due to have hes back dew claws off in april when i have him castrated, do you think maybe i should consider having the front off too? Or is it best to leave the front ones on?

Back from the vets.

He has a slight infection in it so he has 2 days of anti inflammatories (sp) and 5 day course of antibiotics.

The vet also advised that if he catches hes claw again then when he has his back dews off i need to consider having hes front removed too.

Im not keen on the idea of having them removed as he uses them, but if he catches them again then i will.

Thanks
