Poingnant poems

Over the last few years I have saved any particularly poignant poems I have come across with regards to dogs. Some I see a lot and others not so often.

Well this evening I had a read through them. I tend to do this when I'm feeling down, in this case it's because a friend lost her dog this week and it would have been Binky's 12th birthday next week.

Now I'm sat here having balled my eyes out at several of the poems, some particularly apt to dogs I have lost and I was just wondering if others do the same?

I find it quite cathartic to have a good cry now and then, especially as I'm not someone who wears their emotions on their sleeve.

I'm just getting to the point where I can read them again without bawling Although it's coming up to Baileys first crossing the bridge anniversary so I'm thinking I'd best not for a while

I used to read a lot of Poetry but don't really get the time now with three toddler grandchildren around.

I cry with very little prompting anyway, maybe it is an 'age thing ' ...

Some of them are so hard to read when a loss is still raw, but Kipling wrote some of the best dog poems that I have ever read.

Four feet is the one that gets me every time. It sums up my Bob perfectly. I've read it so many times I know it off by heart and when I'm having a really bad day I often find it on loop in my head.

this is about horses, and doctored slightly from a poem about people haha. but it gets me every time, and im not really one for poems of this sort (i like poetry, but think more Plath, Larkin, Ginsberg). this however <3

God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be,
so he put his arms around you and he said 'come to me'.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hooves went to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us, he would only take the best.
