Scooting problem

Not sure if this is a health problem or a behavior problem, but thought I would start here.

Nala is just over 1 year old and even through she is up to date with all her jabs, flee treatment and worming treatment she now and again scoots her bottom on the carpet. I know this is a sign of worms but she's up to date with the tablets, so I really don't know what it is. I've had a look (nice! ) and nothing seems wrong or different.

Any advice or suggestions would be appriectiated.

You're right that it can be a sign of worms.

The other common cause is blocked anal glands.

I would pop her along to the vet who should be able to tell you quickly enough (and unblock them for you if it is the glands).

Just one other thought - what worming tablets do you use - if not from the vets, there is a possibility that they aren't that effective, so the problem could still be worms.

No they're from the vets and she get weighed each time we get more to ensure that she's on the correct dose. I thought it was only male dogs that have probs with the anal glands?

We have a dog that does this to clean his bottom! After going to the loo he can sometimes have 'cling-ons' and his lovley way of removing them is to scoot along the carpet! NICE!

Otherwise i agree about the anal glands and wormer.

No bitches can suffer too, we had a cocker bitch that always had to have them emptied by the vets.

I agree, it's more of a classic sign of blocked anal glands than worms.

Anal gland blockages are usually diet related, as they should be expressed naturally when she goes to the toilet.

If her poop is too soft, then this can cause anal gland blockages.
