I heard they used to call everyone Lil years ago if they had the first name Elizabeth, because Elizabeth was such a popular name?

I always thought Lil=lillian
Liz= Elizabeth.
Mind you one of my daughters nick names is Lil...and her names Kimberley

I always thought that Lil was short for Amanda..cos my grandad always called me Lil
