Further adventures in West London (Gunnersbury Park)

Thanks to J (mother*ship) as we followed your advice and investigated Gunnersbury park. It was lovely and Kia had a great time! There was so much space and loads of dogs for her to play with. I was worried that I wouldn't find any nice open spaces and Kia does love a good run! And it takes 30mins for us to walk there so we get some good lead walking practice in on the way there

We met a 4 1/2 month old akita yesterday (in the rain!) who was gorgeous! Not as quick as Kia and she certainly gave him a run for his money! I was just happy to speak to someone who wasn't Mike or our landlord!

Kia had a great time exploring the wooded bit and was very good watching the geese at the pond. She didn't even try to eat them once! The only downside to our walk was when we met a professional dog walker who had about 6 dogs with her and all offlead. They bombarded Kia and she ended up running back to me with her tail between her legs Too many introductions for my little one to take!

Richmond is next on our list for adventures! And J, you should PM me so we can organise a meeting of the doglets! I would love to have at least one person to talk to down here!

P.S. Sorry for the lack of pics, forgot the camera And it was raining anyway!

Glad you enjoyed it!

It is a bit of a mecca for local dog walkers, and some are more responsible than others

I think one of the best things about dogs is that they are such god conversation starters. I bet before you know it you will know heaps of other dog owners and have plenty of people to talk to.

P.M'ing you now...

J.

Hello! Where about in London are you? We're in the local area too (Isleworth), although haven't tried Gunnersbury Park. It's a good area for dogs though, lots of nice dog walking places.

Richmond park is fantastic, as is strolling along the river Thames. Old Deer park is a nice expanse of green just off the river and is always full of lovely dog owners (some of the nicest I've met in London) so if you want to talk to people, it's a great place. Also Marble Hill Park is good.

You can always talk to us.....although my dog is a bit of a tearaway and may be a little to hyper for Kia.....?!

We live only 100 yards from Gunnersbury Park but rarely use it for dog walking as we find the "professional dog walkers" a real problem. No-one with 10 dogs off lead can be in control of them and it can be a real pain. We do use it in the winter though on the rare occasions when there is enough snow:

I wanna go! I wanna go!

I would have loved to see that!

Gorgeous dogs!

So where do you take yours for every day non-snowy walks?

We usually put them all in the van and go to Bracknell (Swinley) Forest where we have a permit to run them in harness. The older ones get a good run and the youngsters a good walk.

Ooh... That looks like fun! I wish Kia was big enough to pull me along... Maybe if I just stood on a skateboard... Not sure she's be so good at the steering though! Much too easily distracted!

I'm up for a Dogsey meet! And if noone else can make it, me and J will take billions of photos to make up for the lack of other folk I don't have a car though... So it needs to be somewhere easily accessible by legs or public transport...

I'd be up for a Dogsey meet ......providing everyone is ok with me bringing Cain. He's a rescue who I've only had for a few months and was completely unsocialised as a puppy, hence he's on a steep social learning curb. He turns 1 year old next month and is very exhuberant and likes to play by jumping on other dogs without realising he is 40kg!!! Some dogs love him, other more sensitive dogs take exception to him I keep him on a lead at all time at the moment, and he's not aggressive, just has no manners We are working very hard on his training and socialising though. Would anyone's dogs be freaked out by him? I also do not drive so would need somewhere accessible by public transport.

Just to give you some idea of what Cain is like, he's a photo of my "little" puppy.....

Hehe! I'm sure Kia would love him! She's quite quick and much enjoys running rings around other dogs. She had a little guy snarling and nipping at her today in richmond park and she just thought he was trying to play!

And she does love a boy with muscles! She's only one in a fortnight and already she's a massive flirt with all the staffy's and mastiffs we meet! (She's speyed though, so its all just harmless fun! )

Anyone have any suggestions on where we could go?
