Once my dogs were good at recall at home, I ventured to the park using a long lead...I used a horse lunge line. I liked this as I could let them go further and further away from me but they could not run off completely if they decided they had seen something more interesting!! If they did not respond to my call straight away, I could always give the lead a tug just to remind them. That and high value treats seemed to work well.
