Petition for licensed FIREWORKS only

Have been asked to crosspost this from another Forum.

I guess there must have been a few of these petitions in the past and nothing much has changed so far, but persistence is the name of the game here.

No one wants to be regarded as a kill joy, but in recent years the number and ferocity of fireworks has been constantly increasing, together with the number of occasions on which they are considered essential.

Every year animals are lost and killed when they run in panic from fireworks, and children and adults are also injured by misuse of them.

We all know the misery this can cause to our beloved pets, but does anyone ever think of the farm animals and wildlife which also suffer?

So, if you feel able to, please click on the link below to sign this petition to ban the sale of fireworks to the general public and permit licensed firework displays only, so that our pets don't have to go through night after night of stress and panic at this time of the year, every year, and at various other "celebratory" times of the year.

The restrictions need to be at the point of sale. So a licence is needed before you buy the dratted things. Otherwise there`s no way of policing it. Enforcement officers are not going to drive round estates all night in the hope of finding the mad bangers.

There is supposed to be an age limit with no fireworks being sold to children, but they seem able to get hold of them anyway somehow.

Some restrictions won't do much to deter the irresponsible. The only restriction that would really work would be to stop the sale of fireworks (other than sparklers) to the general public and only to permit licensed organised displays.
This may appear to some to be a rather draconian measure but fireworks seem to have got much bigger and certainly much louder that the ones which were around when I was a child with the potential to cause far more damage.

ETA there don't seem to have been many around here this year, not sure if it is the cost of buying them or if everyone is waiting for tonight (a none school night) .

Sounds good, will go and sign. Definitely agree to the ban of sale to public and only for licensed permitted displays. Its far safer for both humans and animals a like.

Its always so hard this time of year for the animals as it can start days before even the official firework day.
