Cosmetic Surgeries on dogs

Cropping the ears and docking the tails. Is it cruel?

I believe so. I think the question to be asked is 'who is it done for' and in the case of cosmetics it has to be the owner as the dog could care less what it looks like.

Invasive and totally unnecessary so therefore, yes, cruel

It would have to be cruel as I can't figure out a real reason to do it. Why preform an unnecessary surgery just to get a certain "look"? They look fine the way they are born.

Cropping of ears is illegal in the UK. Docking is banned in Scotland but still allowed in England but only if the pups are going to be working gundogs (where there is a high incidence of tail damage).

I must admit I do really like the look of a cropped/docked Doberman, as I think it gives them a much more alert look, but I don't agree with purely cosmetic surgery.
