Swimming

Tuti's post got me thinking
We had a swimming pool up in the garden all summer and it's a constant job of checking levels and adding chemicals
Is it safe to let a dog swim in this sort of water I know when i'm swimming i try not to swallow the water but my dogs when swimming in the lake always drink loads off water

I'd say no Russ.

What does it say on the cans/bottles of the chemicals? Any warning signs?

I hate to give them chemicals in their foods so would be careful about them drinking buckets loads of the stuff

I'd say leaving the residue on fur/skin might cause irritation, so a rinse off with less chlorinated water after a paddle would be wise...

You use Algicide and chlorine both have symbols with dead fish on
Chlorine burns you insides if you inhale it
i know it's watered down but i never let them in it, they had a smaller doggie pool

No worries Tuti, your post just got me thinking lol
They can't be that scary, the kids were in it all summer
There's just times you have to leave it b4 you are ok to swim.
It was just the dogs drinking it bit

Was just going to say, kids/people are in them all summer over here & kids drink a fair bit of it while playing
Not the best thing in the world for them but the benefits outweigh the downside A quick rinse afterwards & all should be well

They`re doing pools with unchlorinated water now but haven`t looked into yet

Our pool is unchlorinated which makes me feel a lot better about it as Archie sometimes mistakes it for a massive water bowl which I try to prevent as much as possible anyway...

We add chemicals to our pool (don't ask me what sort, OH does it) I don't allow any of the dogs in it, not that any of them have attempted it.

Dogs skins are very sensitive, sometimes more so than a babies skin. If your dogs do go in, make sure they're well rinsed afterwards.
