If you are British Citizens, every member of the family now needs to have their own passport to go anywhere abroad unless you are travelling to the Isle of Man, the Channel Islands or the Irish Republic. Babies also need their own passports. However, if any of your children are under 16 and are already on your passport which was issued before October 1998, they can still travel with you on that passport until your passport expires or they reach the age of 16 - which ever is sooner.
Hope this helps

We live in Ireland and regularly travel to the UK. If your flying you will need photo id. If your going on the ferry on very few occasions you are stopped by customs and asked for ID. It doesn't have to be a passport though. Hope this helps and have a good time.
