my little boxer pup will be eleven months nxt week and has just come into her first season just a week ago . her mum came in at the same age . but there boxers not to sure if it applies

Hi ATD there is no correct time for a bitch to have a first season though many do tend to have one around the 6 month mark, anywhere between 5 and 18 months is possible.

Mounting is normal behaviour in puppies, it can be connected to the adolescent surge of hormones or just puppies practising for adulthood, it does not necessarily mean your bitch is coming in season although it is advisable to keep an eye on her for other signs.

If you see her mounting the best course of action is to distract her.

Booboo, If you have a bitch that comes into season at regular intervals to the week then you will be lucky!! My dobe bitches came into season anything between 5 and 8 months, and oddly enough it did seem to depend on the season of the year and the weather. A long cold winter meant a longer time between seasons.

Any experienced breeder will tell you that you can only "guestimate" the next season. So all you cando is watch your bitch from about 4 1/2 months onward. Kath
