Hoping monty perks up a bit today, and good luck with the results, at least it's all over now, you can deal with it if you have to when the time comes hey? Good luck with it all.

Hi guys, thanks for all the posts. Sorry I have not been able to reply sooner or individually - work kindly sent me away on business for today and tomorrow so I'm feeling like the worst dog owner ever for leaving him but he's in safe hands with my mum who has today and tomorrow off. I still feel awful and am missing him immensely - I'm also missing proper net connection!

Well we had Monty's results yesterday and the biopsy has shown that the lump on his head is a dermoid cyst or can sometimes be known as a dermoid sinus.

I know Wiki isn't the most reliable but here's a bit of info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dermoid_sinus

Reading that makes so much sense to me in the terms of what Monty's lump looks like and how the vet described the inside of it.

So next step is to get a quote (i can't get my head round using the term "get a quote" for dog treatment) for it to be removed and our vet is kindly writing a report that should guarantee that insurance will pay out so I'm feeling a bit more positive about it all now.

My only concern is reading that these cysts can be attached to the spine but I don't think Monty's will be as he's a very agile dog and I guess the specialist will be able to tell this when he looks at it in detail.

Is it a cyst or sinus because the two seem to be very different. A sinus, being a neural tube defect like spina bifida in humans, is more likely to have spinal involvement than a cyst. in humans anyway.

The vet said cyst after further reading I made a mistake saying it was a possible dermoid sinus.

So to clairfy he has a dermoid cyst. Sorry for the confusion!!
