Ned ~ Super Guy Deserves His Forever Home – 4yo Black Greyhound

NED

Meet Ned. He is an ex-racing greyhound boy who just turned 4 years old. Ned has had a very successful racing career with a total of 61 races and 25 wins under his belt. His race name is Saleen Neidin, Neidin being the Irish for a town in Co. Kerry, Ireland. Ned has worked extremely hard in his racing life and he was handed in to us to find him a fitting forever home. Ned is a big black boy who will be a real cracker once he loses his thick kennel coat.

~ Personality ~
Ned is a very sweet, laid back boy who adores getting fussed over and will do just about anything for a cuddle. He always has a waggy tail for you when you visit his kennel, and just loves to be loved. He is a calm, dependable boy who has seen a lot during his racing life and is used to crowds and traffic. He is a new boy to our kennels so we are still getting to know him, but so far he has been just superb.

~ Other Animals ~
Ned is very good with our other greyhounds and enjoys being in their company. He has spent his whole life kennelled with other hounds so is well used to sharing his space with them. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

~ In the Home ~
Ned has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Once this boy discovers the joys of sofa roaching, he is likely never to get up again!

~ Out and About ~
Like most greyhounds, Ned is a low energy boy and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He has spent his whole life running and is now quite content to just potter about and ‘sniff the roses’, so to speak. Ned walks excellently on the lead and travels well in the car.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~
In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~
Ned is currently being kennelled in Ireland and will be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting him, he will be fostered in the Norfolk area.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~
Ned is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhound Connection is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us.

If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Ned, please email me (Tam) for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!

Ned has now travelled to Norfolk where he is in kennels. Please note Ned can be rehomed anywhere in the UK but potential adopters will need to travel to Norfolk to meet/collect him.
