Help. Puppy hurt leg, limping but not crying, able to move leg without pain.

An X-ray is in the hundreds and I can't afford that yet. I went to the vet and they said it wasn't an emergency but I'm a bit skeptical. Anyone in here have any knowledge on this? Does it look like it's broken or fractured? He still plays with my other dog and he's ok until she tries to play rough.

I once broke my ankle really badly but I walked on it for a week before getting an xray done and ended up in a cast for 24 weeks as a result. So how can anyone know whether it's broken or not without an xray.

If the vet has checked and can't feel a problem, I take it s/he's waiting to see how the leg responds? S/he should have advised strict rest for a few days to see if the limp stops.

It could be as innocuous as a knock, but it could be a fracture which will need treatment.

Short slow walks, no rough play and rest. If the dog is still limping after a week, then a return to the vet. Will the leg bend backwards and forwards and can you flex the joints, have you checked the pads for any foreign objects or cuts

Do not allow rough play till you are sure of what is causing the symptoms. It may be my eyesight or the way the hair is lying, but in the first two photos, the toes on the puppy's right front foot look to be more spread apart than the ones on the left. Have you checked each toe joint and footpad gently and carefully, looking for signs of pain or injury?
Puppies usually heal quickly, I think I would find the money for an x-ray if she continues to show signs of pain.

If there is a fracture, your dog would most likely be carrying the leg. Most dogs do not cry with pain unless it is cervical in nature or TMJ. If he is limping, he is painful. That is why he is compensating. Rest, rest and more rest. If it persists, back to the vet and let them do a thorough exam, including X-rays. Often, in puppies, the sooner we get to the problem, the easier it is to fix. God luck
