Once bitten, twice stupid (another dog attack)

A father was left with horrific injuries after he was brutally mauled by his family's American bulldog a year after it had attacked his nine-year-old son.

Vicious: Two-year-old American pitbull
brutally mauled by his family's American bulldog
Pit bull, bulldog... nah, no difference there!

The worst bit is this;
'These dogs are timebombs waiting to go off due to their unpredictable nature.
'I realise now that these dogs are not designed to be house pets due to their size and strength.

Talk about tarring all with the same brush
If the dog had already attacked for whatever reason, why was he allowed to be offlead in public without a muzzle?

I imagine there is more to this story than we will ever know. But if its true the dog attacked his son previously and he kept in and allowed it to run around in a public park off lead then I am "pleased" it was him the dog decided to bite not a member of the public.

And that bloke said

'I should have got the dog put down after he attacked Alexander but he didn’t want me to as it was his dog.
'I now think that only people who have the right environment for these breeds should have them. They are not suitable pets especially with young children about.'
He at least is putting the blame on himself. But how anyone could consider that a small young lad was the rightful owner of a dog of that size and strength is beyond me. Might as well buy him some weaponry to play with.

I've said a lot about this big, tough, powerful breeds of dogs in the past (and got slated for it) so I won't go over it again here.

Just RIP Lexi.

  • Did this person have any experience with large dogs before getting this one?
  • Was this person typical of many 'young men' who try to make/train their dogs look and sound 'hard'?

So many questions. Makes you winder whether in different hands (the right home?) this dog may well have been a perfectly well behaved and obedient dog.

Just earlier I saw some bloke with a staff cross shouting at his dog to "come here!!" and with a stick in his hand! If only people would go to training classes with their dogs, maybe things like this wouldn't happen?

Actually, I think it still would - because you will always get people trying to look and act hard with their dogs, and unfortunately large bull breeds seem to attract such owners most. It's more of a social issue, I guess.
